Disney Grub
Error, error. Ran over to Disneyland for a few hours with our passports on Tuesday. Thought it would be fairly empty (by Disney standards) on a weekday. Wrong. Ah, well. Still got to go on several rides and we had a nice time. Foodwise, blech. Our first choice was the sourdough bread bowls with clam chowder in the New Orleans area, but they were closed (as was Pirates of the Caribbean, for unknown reasons.) So we hopped over to the nearby Stage Door Cafe, thinking we would just get something quick. Chicken breast nuggets for Logan and fish and chips for Marina and me. It wasn't horrible or anything, and all seemed to be freshly deep-fried, but it's a little painful to spend $10 a person on something that would have been $4 at Jack in the Box. They gave us a slight discount with our annual passports, but it was still $34 for three of us. Yikes.

Beef tenderloin tonight. Getting our beef lately from J & J Grass Fed Beef -- all natural and, obviously, grass fed in Central California. Our shipment arrived a couple weeks ago (comes frozen, and I defrost what we need in the fridge.) Gotta go look up some beef recipes. I like something simple with a tenderloin, but a nice mustard or pepper crust sounds good.

Killer Combination
We had a lovely meal (twice now) at the Legoland Sealife Aquarium. They have a restaurant upstairs that reminds us of the Auto Grill roadside cafes in Italy. My son ordered the yummiest combo of bacon, mushrooms and green onions, sauteed with house-made macaroni and cheese. We've duplicated this (usually with pancetta instead of bacon) in our omelets for a few months now. Then we branched out and put them on a homemade pizza, dough courtesy of Trader Joe's. And finally, it was fabulous with my own macaroni and 4-cheese recipe. Each time, I've just diced the pancetta (or bought pre-diced at TJ's), sliced a handful of mushrooms, and sliced 3 or 4 green onions, depending on how many people I'm feeding. Deliciously salty, creamy from the cheese, and a little crunch from the onions. OK, now I'm hungry again. Go! Eat now!

Food Lovers Unite!
What can I say, but I really love food. I'm not one of those girls who orders a small salad (dressing on the side, please) and then picks at it. Back in my younger and poorer days, this was probably hard on my dates' wallets. On my first date with my now-husband of 17 years, we went to a Mexican restaurant. I ordered a huge chimichanga (which is a burrito that has been filled and then fried, yum) extra guacamole and sour cream. We wrapped up with a dessert of deep-fried ice cream with fresh whipped cream.
Back before having kids, I was blessed with a great metabolism and didn't have to worry about a few extra calories. Those were the days! Unfortunately, my metabolism isn't quite what it used to be, but I can still eat pretty much what I want, as long as I work out a few times a week. So it could be worse.
